Sex | Sex Case Suspect Faces New Charges

Martell Miller, 17, of Vine Street in Niles was arraigned Sept. 2 on one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of fourth-degree CSC, both using force or coercion against a female under age 17. The incident allegedly occurred Feb. 11 in Niles.

Assistant Prosecutor Steve Pierangeli said a preliminary hearing on the new charges against Miller will be held Tuesday morning in Berrien County Trial Court in Niles.

In the teen video sex extortion scandal case, Miller faces five charges: two counts of first-degree CSC, two counts of third-degree CSC and one count of extortion.

The fifth youth, Trey Nichols, faces child pornography charges in connection with the production of the recording as well as charges in two separate incidents involving other alleged victims.

Martin, Miller, Nichols and Washington face mid-October trials on the original charges against them. Murphy accepted a plea deal in late May, pleading guilty to one count of third-degree CSC and one count of possession of child pornography in exchange for testifying against the other four.

It still has not been decided whether the other four will be tried separately or together.
