LOS ANGELES, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- The so-called Patient Alpha, who was thought to be spreading the HIV virus in the porn industry, has tested negative for the disease, an industry group said.
The Free Speech Coalition said in a written statement Sunday the patient, an adult-film actor in Florida, turned up clean in a recent test and called the previous result a "false positive."
"After discussion with our medical expert, he has advised that it would be appropriate for production to resume and the focus of attention brought to those who had worked with the performer." said Executive Director Diane Duke. "That group is already receiving care."
The FSC had called for a moratorium on X-rated productions a week ago after the patient reportedly tested positive for HIV. Duke said that despite a flurry of rumors about the patient, the secondary test proved industry self-regulation was effective.
