ROCHESTER, N.H. -- Police say a man who drove special needs students had child pornography and now investigators want to know who the children in the pictures are.
Authorities said the bus driver drove students in Rochester; however the superintendent of schools in the town is breathing a sigh of relief.
John Wright has been driving school buses for some time, according to authorities. They say some of the students included special needs children, but that job is over -- at least for now.
The 45-year-old is behind bars, accused of possessing various kinds of child pornography.
"When I found out he drove the technical center buses that went between the tri-city vocational program, I felt at least they were high school students that could take care of themselves," said Michael Hopkins, Superintendent of the Rochester School District.
Hopkins said Wright only drove upperclassman, but this year that was going to change.
"He would have been driving a bus for special education students. It would have been middle school, high school and elementary students," said Hopkins.
Police said an overwhelming amount of evidence was found at Wright’s Milton, N.H. home, including a hard drive that contained approximately 10,000 images and movies depicting child sexual abuse, according to court papers.
Some file names included the term "handicapped," "disabled" and pictures were also discovered in a file titled "John’s Frosty Tunes."
Court files state that Wright worked for the bus company Provider, which serves districts in both New Hampshire and Maine. Authorities tried to figure out if any of the children depicted are students from the suspect’s bus routes.
Hopkins said the bus company does the hiring and background checks. He said there were never any issues with Wright. The bus driver’s wife said Wright is innocent.
Wright will return to court next week.
