Sex | Madonna's Sex Book Is Most Wanted

Madonna's explicit 1992 coffee-table book Sex is the most sought after out-of-print title in the US of the past 12 months, according to BookFinder.com.

The singer's limited-edition picture book caused controversy when it was first released for its risque images and went on to be a collector's item.

The book search engine's annual report tracks the 100 most searched-for out-of-print titles.

Promise Me Tomorrow, by US romance author Nora Roberts, came second.

BookFinder.com said the prolific author "actively persuaded her loyal fan base to avoid this early novel for years" and hoped the 1984 work would never be republished.

"We suspect a used bookshop is the only place you will find this title," it added.

Horror writer Stephen King occupies two spots in the top five.

His 1977 novel Rage, written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, is at three, while 1989 short story My Pretty Pony is ranked at four.

The Top 10 also features Johnny Cash's memoir Man In Black and a Marilyn Monroe biography by Norman Mailer.

Other notable books on the list include Fly Fishing: Memories of Angling Days by JR Hartley - a title inspired by a famous 1980s Yellow Pages advert.

Among the new entries tin this year's Top 100 was knitting expert Alice Starmore's Tudor Roses, a book featuring "sweater designs inspired by the Tudor royals".

According to BookFinder.com, Sarah Bradford's 1989 biography of George VI, The Reluctant King, had been in "steady demand" following the release of Colin Firth film The King's Speech.

Anal | It's More Than Just HIV " Duh, It's HPV Too

In this HIV public service announcement, we were warned about many complications of HIV infection " including the increased risk for anal cancer among gay HIV-positive men (a fact that medical science supports). It was not the message with which we took issue, but the manner in which the message was portrayed. Recall the television ad! It was a graphic image of a luminescent, radioactive ass that scared the heck out of ALL gay men. For me personally, it made my annual anal Pap smear an event of great anxiety, one that I considered canceling at least a dozen times.

Many of us know that genital human papilloma virus (HPV), of which there are more than 40 types, is the pathogen that can cause anal or genital warts (HPV types 6 and 11 may cause warts). What is less known, however, is that there are certain types of HPV (such as HPV types 16 and 18) which can serve as the causes of anal cancer. National and local health efforts have been undertaken to educate the population about the link between HPV and cervical cancer in women. However, associations between HPV and anal cancer " which as we know may affect more than gay men " remain few and far between. There are clearly articulated policies for women's health, including recommended immunizations against HPV for women and young girls as described in the city's health bulletin urging vaccination (Volume 7, Number 1). For men. particularly gay men who may be most at risk for contracting a form of HPV that may cause anal cancer, the recommendations are less clear and definitive. In fact, this message is all but absent.

While the NYCDOHMH guidelines recommend anal Pap smears for HIV-positive men on a routine basis, the NYCDOHMH Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI)Screening Guidelines for Sexually Active Patients lists the Pap as "N/A" (not applicable) for other men who have sex with men (MSM). Although the risk for anal cancer may be less for HIV-negative men. one still is left to wonder how a health commission " focused on warning about the dangers of anal cancer in their HIV prevention campaign " is somewhat aloof and silent in its recommendations for gay men regarding HPV (both in terms of screening for anal cancer and routine vaccination of young men and boys before they become sexually active).

To make matters worse, some doctors treating HIV-positive gay men also do not routinely undertake Pap smears of their patients. According to Dr. Stephen Goldstone of Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, author of "The Ins and Outs of Gay Sex: A Medical Handbook for Men" and one of the world's leading authorities on anal cancer in gay men, "There is a real embarrassment on the part of both patients and healthcare providers to deal with sexual health issues and anal health issues. Most patients don't even get a rectal exam let alone an anal Pap smear. It is unfortunate that many anal cancers I see are quite large and would have been picked up much sooner had the patient just had a rectal exam."

To date, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends routine HPV vaccination for females. In 2006, the HPV vaccine Gardasil was licensed for use in females ages 9 through 26, with recommended routine vaccination for girls ages 11 to 12 and catch-up vaccination for females ages 13 to 26. In 2009, a second vaccination, Cervarix, was licensed for use in females ages 9 to 26. Following suit, the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the CDC and the NYCDOHMH adopted the Gardasil recommendations. Additionally, the city recommends Pap smears for women beginning at age 21 regardless of sexual activity, and every two years thereafter if the result is negative. After age 30, the test can be undertaken every three years after three consecutive negative Paps. More frequent testing is recommended for women living with HIV.

Despite the clear evidence that such a vaccination program may improve the health of the gay community " and men's health in general " health policy makers are dragging their feet (reminiscent of the early days of the AIDS epidemic when only a few brave doctors took notice and ACT-Up fought for our lives). My colleague and friend Sara Gillen (Vice President for Community Health Services atHarlem United) discovered the confusion in the medical community when she took her young son to his primary care provider for his school checkup and requested the HPV vaccination, only to have the provider question why her son should be vaccinated. Good parenting, bad medical practice!

There is now some evidence, thanks to the pioneering efforts of Dr. Stephen Goldstone, indicating that vaccination may help to deter onset of anal cancer even in HIV-positive men who are already infected with cancer-causing HPV types. According to Goldstone, "There is some research data in both men and women who have had high-grade dysplasia that vaccination can prevent recurrence of the problem. While the number of cases is very limited, the data is clearly exciting. I think the most important point, however, is that people should get vaccinated even if they have already had a problem."

The concerns regarding HPV and gay men extend into the overall medical practices regarding anal health. In our current study of 18 and 19-year-old gay men, locally named P18, we found that the majority of them had not been routinely screened anally for any STI. Of 598 men, 14 percent reported ever having been checked for an anal STI. Of those who had been screened, their most recent test was over one year prior to the survey, despite the fact that these young men are sexually active with male partners.

This is all to say, of course, we as gay men must be the ones who control our own health. Practicing safer sex to prevent the spread of HIV, HPV and other STIs should be front and center. As the NYCDOHMH indicates, it is truly more than just HIV; unfortunately, they are not willing to do anything about it, at least not until the CDC wakes up and recognizes that HPV vaccination for males is as essential as it is for females, and is an issue that has great significance for gay men.

In the interim, intelligent, gay and gay-friendly doctors can vaccinate you against HPV whether or not you have been exposed to the anal cancer-causing viruses. Ask your health care provider about that. (Unfortunately, do not expect your insurance provider to pay.) You should also be routinely checked for STIs (including but not limited to HIV), and should be screened for penile, anal and oral infections. Gay men, especially HIV-positive men, should undergo annual Pap smear screening. At the end of the day, the best medicine we have in this country for our health is preventive medicine. The effectiveness of prevention rests heavily on our shoulders.

Porn | Court: Morristown Dad Denied Custody Over Porn Issues

An appellate court has struck down a Hamblen County's judge ruling that granted custody of two children to a father who was trolling the Internet for sexual partners " women, men and, in one case, a couple.

The state Court of Appeals calls Circuit Court Judge Kindall T. Lawson's decision flawed on a number of fronts, including his failure to consider whether a man with "an uncontrolled problem with Internet pornography and with extramarital relationships" makes a fit parent.

In an opinion authored by Appellate Judge Charles D. Susano Jr., the court instead is awarding primary custody to the mother of the two children, who were 12 and 7 at the time of the divorce.

To protect the identities of the children, the court did not identify the two parents at issue in the case.

According to the opinion, the couple had been married 17 years when the wife used old-fashioned sleuthing through credit card bills and high-tech software to reconstruct his Internet activity, revealing proof that he had been trolling adult websites, including one catering to gay men.

"Wife testified that husband's use of pornography had been long-standing and that, each time she caught him involving himself with pornography, he promised to stop," the opinion stated. "She testified that his activities became intolerable to her when husband admitted to having a homosexual affair with an individual whose first name starts with an 'R.'"

The husband admitted "numerous private meetings with another male named Ron during which, according to him, the two of them watched pornography" and were aroused but denied any touching, the opinion said. He also conceded meeting up with a woman he met on a dating website but again denied sex and setting up a meeting with a Loudon County couple that he insisted he backed out of at the last minute.

"Husband insisted throughout the trial that there was nothing wrong with his extramarital sexual activity as described by him," Susano wrote.

Lawson's chief concern, according to the opinion, was that the children not be uprooted from the "marital home," where the father still lived, even though the mother also lived in Morristown and agreed to abandon a plan to move with the children to Clarksville.

Lawson ignored key factors, including that the mother had always been the primary caretaker and the father's sexual promiscuity, the court opined.

"We have reviewed the transcript of husband's testimony and find that the evidence preponderates strongly in favor of finding that Husband had an uncontrolled problem with Internet pornography and with extramarital relationships initiated through the Internet, all of which he tried to falsely deny or portray as innocent," Susano wrote.

Lesbians | RE/MAX No Longer Advertising On Pretty Little Liars

30 August 2011
by Bridgette P. LaVictoire

There are lesbians everywhere. . .any woman who dares to have a spine is a lesbian…any woman who is independent is a lesbian…any woman who dares not have a man is a lesbian…that appears to be the thinking behind the Florida Family Association and their attacks on the ABC Family show Pretty Little Liars . Perhaps they believe that Pretty Little Liars is going to turn into something like the webcomic Penny Aggie where one lesbian character multiplies into five by the end of the series.

The FFA recently stated "McDonald's and Chrysler are leading advertisers on [the] lesbian TV show watched mostly by girls under 18. Unlike any other show on unrestricted advertiser-supported television networks, the majority of the primary cast on Pretty Little Liars are lesbians. The series has grown from one lesbian lead character to three."

There is one problem, unlike the Penny Aggie where one lesbian character did, eventually, end up having four other lesbian characters surrounding her, there is only one lesbian character on Pretty Little Liars .

They have begun to try and get businesses to pull their advertisers from the show, and so far, very few have done so. In fact, so far, only one seems to have fled- RE/MAX. Their CEO Margaret Kelly told the FFA that "We have informed our media company to be sure to reference our list of shows that we do not want to advertise on…. this show is on the list. This should not happen again."

Well, actually, it is two who have pulled out. General Mills has also asked that their ads not run during Pretty Little Liars . The reason being given? Well, the usual- the show is the wrong target demographic.

WetPaint.com noted:

Clearly RE/MAX has failed to notice the positive impact Emily (Shay Mitchell)'s sexuality has on PLL viewers. Em and her poker-playing lesbian besties inspire fans to be open and proud of their sexual orientation, and even helped ABC Family score a top GLAAD rating!

Ah well, it seems like there are going to be more than enough advertisers who want to come along and take those spaces since there does not appear to be any actual problems with the show getting revenue.

On a sad note, the webcomic Penny Aggie , which I mentioned in this article, comes to an end tonight after seven years. It started out as a collaboration between writer T. Campbell and artist Gisele "Giz" Lagac. Eventually, Lagac would move on to other projects and Jason Walthrip would take over the art.

2. But I thought Nicholson Baker was a serious novelist. What's up? Baker is a serious novelist -- clever, an elegant sentence-turner, quirky, risky in a nerdy, obsessive way. The Mezzanine is a 200-page novel that nano-describes a man's one-hour lunch break as he goes to the mall to buy shoelaces. Checkpoint is the story of two normal guys who get so upset with George W. Bush's Iraq policy that they plot to assassinate him. Vox is a vivid fictional transcription of two people having phone sex.

3. Oh, so he's centered books on sex before. What's the title about? It's not what you might think. "Holes" refers to these magic portals that characters use to get from the regular world to the House of Holes, which turns out to be a sexual fantasy camp.

4. Um, better elaborate. Sure. If you're a guy, when you arrive, you start at the Penis Wash, where nubile women lather you up before you start putting your schlong into the big-breasted and willing women who roam the grounds. You can ride the Masturboats, go to a Groanroom (where you listen to people have sex in the dark) or stop by the Pornodecahedron, where 12 screens show amateur porn. If you're a gal, you can stimulate your gaping snatch hole by riding a Pussyboard over a lake of warm oils. And everybody can enjoy the Garden of the Wholesome Delightful Fuckers, or attend the festivities in the Hall of the Penises.

5. Dude -- wait. Schlong? Gaping snatch hole? Oh yeah, sorry; that's Bakerspeak. For example, for clitoris, he'll say "little thumper bean"; for sperm, "doodle-goo"; for sexual intercourse, "doing the happy humperdinkle." When a guy starts having sex, Baker writes that his "length of badness stuffed her gasping twat full of warm, brown dick muscle." Some reviewers have found this stuff wicked hilarious, and claim Baker's doing a hysterical parody of pornographic cliches.

6. And what do you think? In short doses, it's OK. Over 262 pages, it's grueling. Baker has spent a lot of time thinking up ways to convey what people sound like when they orgasm: "NNNNNgggggggggaaaaaaw!" Or, "Ham, ham, oo, oo ... ham, ham, HAW!" and "Oofy." He's not always that inventive. Sometimes, it's just: "Oh, that's good! Oh, shit, Dave, I'm a porn star! Oh juice it, juice it, I'M COMING!"

7. Is it arousing, at least? Sure, some of it is. But, understand, writing to arouse isn't very hard to do. Porn's a sort of limited genre, if you know what I mean. You get two or more people who aren't having sex yet, and gradually you get them having sex. It's more or less primally interesting, so you don't have to do a lot in terms of literary trickery to get a reader to imagine it. Plus, porn has built-in conclusions: people come.

But arousal isn't exactly a sufficient criterion to judge a book like this. Clearly, Baker's not out simply to get people off. (Though I must note the worrisome fact that most of the chapters are about six pages long -- which sounds like standard masturbation-length material -- and most of them end with somebody coming.) He's fairly subtle about it, but I fear that the book's intentions have to do with Baker striking a blow against the residues of Puritanism that remain among America's white upper middle class. He thinks they're too uptight and need to enjoy sex in a frolicky, less guilt-ridden way. (It's the same justification that the proto-porn film I Am Curious [Yellow] made in 1967.) Which may account for lines like, "Stop hiding, stop disguising, be naked for once." Or "Listen to your clit." Or, in a scene where a woman describes one zebra mounting another (long story): "She wants it. She's switching her tail around. She's a hot stripy-assed zebra bitch in heat, and she wants him now. Mmm, so natural. She's not ashamed."

8. So I'm feeling you're not that big on this book? Afraid so. There's no plot tension, and the characters are almost indistinguishable: They're uniformly nice, innocent, uncomplicated, child-like in their simple desire for pleasure. Baker bleaches the book of exactly the things that makes sex interesting: the subtle power shifts between men and women, the fear, the vulnerabilities, the consequences, the connections between erotic passion and love. As porn. it's not bad, but isn't porn everywhere? Just two mouse clicks away? But it's hard to claim that House of Holes is more than porn. or a comic parody of same. It's a book that'll make certain people giggle into their hands and think naughty thoughts.

Porn | Outside The Lines: 9/11 Coloring Book Causes Controversy

Is it an attention-grabbing publicity stunt, or an effort to educate kids about the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and the decade of fighting that followed?

The publisher of a new children’s coloring book, called "We Shall Never Forget 9/11: The Kids’ Book of Freedom," says it is the latter. Really Big Coloring Books Inc. publisher Wayne Bell says the book is intended to be educational.

"It’s really designed for older kids, not preschoolers," said Bell in a phone interview. "It’s designed to be a teaching and learning tool for parents and teachers to use with their children."

But will military parents, many of whom have endured lives of repeated deployments in the aftermath of Sept. 11, see it that way?

The coloring book includes pages showing the smoking World Trade Center and mourning survivors. Page 19 depicts a Navy SEAL taking aim at Osama bin Laden, who is seen cowering behind a veiled woman as a bullet leaves the barrel of the SEAL’s rifle. Above the drawing is this message: "Children, the truth is, these terrorist acts were done by freedom-hating Islamic Muslim extremists. These crazy people hate the American way of life because we are FREE and our society is FREE."

The book, available only online, has stirred controversy since its release, being labeled everything from "disaster porn" to propaganda. The Council on American-Islamic Relations has said it promotes anti-Muslim stereotypes.

Shariah Gibbs, a military spouse in Stuttgart, Germany, says she doesn’t have a problem with telling her kids the truth about what happened on Sept. 11. But she believes there’s a more appropriate way.

"This should not be a coloring book," said Gibbs in a Facebook response to a Stars and Stripes question. "If it were just a regular picture [book] I might consider it ... but as is, I would not purchase this."

Other parents in the Stuttgart military community concurred.

"I don’t think the death of a lunatic makes for great children’s coloring material (or a disaster such as 9/11)," wrote Erin Reilly, a member of Facebook’s Robinson Barracks friends group. "I don’t remember having coloring books when my dad was in Desert Storm. I remember my Mom and Dad sitting down with me and talking to me."

In recent weeks, Bell said he understands complaints from people who question the decision to make a coloring book about 9/11.

"It is still a raw topic," he said. But he’s clear that it was not meant to be entertainment for young children. "This is a graphic coloring novel, This is not a coloring book you will present to your kindergarten class."

Keri Bramham Hurd, another member of the Stuttgart community, says there are better ways to educate kids.

"I have a book about 9/11 I read to my kids when they were younger to help them understand, but I would not buy a coloring book," Hurd wrote to Stars and Stripes. "To me, coloring books should be fun.....this is not!"

Porn | Porn, HIV And Condoms; The Debate Rages On As Actor Tests Postive

The HIV positive test comes from the August 2nd the Free Speech Coalition database, which is aimed at preventing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases among porn actors through mandatory testing. Being a part of the database gets more work, so porn actors must get tested every 30 days and present a clean bill of health to be a part of it.

Michael Weinstein, president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation in Los Angeles comments:

"Testing is not a substitute for condom use, and it never will be. No test can detect HIV from the moment of infection. There will always be a window period. The average American male has seven female sexual partners in a lifetime. But it's possible for a male to have seven sexual partners in a single day on porn movie set. Because this is a network that's kind of inbred, the spread of disease could be exponential. You can't dangle from a 30-story building from a rope; you have to wear a harness. The idea that hurting these performers is a matter of freedom of expression is simply wrong."

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation is also calling for mandatory condom use in the making of adult films, a push that may make sense to the public, but not to many actors in the business.

Christian Mann, general manger of Evil Angel Productions and unpaid Free Speech Coalition board member explains:

"If the market would accept condom-positive movies, that's what we would all be making. The fact is consumers don't want that. The market will always trump regulation. If you make it so California-based productions cannot compete in the market, you'll just drive production out of the state."

This controversy is nothing new however. In 1998, veteran porn actor Mark Wallice tested HIV-positive after reputedly hiding his positive status for two years and infecting several co-stars.

In 2004, Darren James spread the virus to three women, shutting down film production industry wide for a month. Finally in 2009, a positive HIV test for a performer known only as "Patient Zero" sparked a legal battle between the California Department of Occupational Safety and Health and AIM Medical Associates over performers' rights to medical privacy.

The Free Speech Coalition says it intends to "lead, protect and support the growth and well-being of the adult entertainment community" by being the legislative watchdog for the industry; lobbying in California and in Congress.

Meanwhile, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which is also Los Angeles based, is trying to get a measure placed on the city's June 2012 ballot that would require adult film performers to use condoms for porn filmmakers to obtain L.A. city filming permits.

The group must submit a petition with at least 41,138 qualifying signatures by Dec. 23 to place the measure on the ballot. If they succeed, it will be the first time the issue, litigated and disputed during state regulatory meetings, would come before voters.

Sex | State Attorneys General Ask Website To Combat Sex Trafficking

NASHVILLE " Tennessee Attorney General Bob Cooper and 45 other attorneys general across the country are urging Backpage.com, an online classified ad site, to get more aggressive in stopping ads promoting human sex trafficking, especially those that could involve minors.

In a letter to the website's lawyers, released publicly today, the attorneys general said that Backpage.com claims it has strict policies to prevent illegal activity.

Yet, officials said in their news release, the chief legal officers of several states have found "hundreds of ads" on Backpage.com's regional sites "that are clearly for illegal services."

The letter states the hub for illegal sex ads is a magnet for those seeking to exploit minors and points to more than 50 cases in 22 states over three years involving the trafficking or attempted trafficking of minors through Backpage.com.

Tennessee has had "numerous instances" of suspected human sex trafficking, generally with arrests from one end of the state to the other in the past few years, according to Cooper's office.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation noted in a joint study with Vanderbilt's Center for Community Studies that "human trafficking and sex slavery in Tennessee is more common than previously believed possible."

The May 2011 study said Tennessee is attractive to traffickers because of its geographic location and closeness to interstates and larger cities.

Porn | Dutch Probe Uncovers Hidden Child Porn Sites In US

(AP)- 3 hours ago

AMSTERDAM (AP) " Dutch police have uncovered huge caches of child pornography on "hidden" websites, including four based in the United States, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

The discovery was made as part of the far-reaching investigation into a suspected pedophile identified only as Robert M. who was arrested in Amsterdam last year. He is accused of abusing dozens of young children while he worked in at least two Amsterdam preschools.

The Dutch police's National Investigations Office said in a statement it had managed to infiltrate several "hidden services" sites internationally where users can surf the internet and communicate anonymously.

There, they found some 220,000 child pornography photos and videos.

Four of the websites were housed on two servers based in the United States. Investigators managed to break into them and access the images as well as online chats that included identifying details of users of the sites. The details are being turned over to the FBI, prosecutors said.

Prosecution spokesman Wim de Bruin said no arrests have yet been made as a result of the discovery.

Prosecutors said they saved the images as evidence before deleting them from the servers.

One of the hidden sites police discovered was called "Violent Desires."

"As well as child pornography, it contained a discussion forum that included chats about abducting, abusing and killing children," prosecutors said.

They also gained access as visitors to 11 sites containing child pornography, where they posted police warning signs in a move designed to scare off people accessing the sites.

Robert M. was arrested last December and his computers seized. Prosecutors say he has confessed to dozens of sex crimes inflicted on boys and girls aged under four years.

Anal | HPV Vaccine Protects Women Against Anal Infection

A vaccine against human papillomavirus (HPV) protects women against two strains of the virus that causes anal cancer, researchers reported.

The vaccine (Cervarix) against HPV strains 16 and 18 offered "strong protection" against anal infection in a study whose main goal was to assess the efficacy of vaccination against cervical infection and pre-cancerous lesions, according to Aimée Kreimer, PhD, of the National Cancer Institute, and colleagues.

The protection was higher in women who did not have HPV infection when they were first given the vaccine, Kreimer and colleagues reported online in The Lancet Oncology .

Anal cancer is rare in women, with an annual incidence of about 1.5 per 100,000, but rates are rising, the researchers noted. The rate is higher than for men in general, but markedly lower than for men who have sex with men or those with HIV.

Most anal cancers are caused by HPV, with strains 16 and 18 responsible for up to 80% of cases, Kreimer and colleagues noted.

They tested the vaccine against anal infection in a subgroup of young adult women, ages 18 through 25, who enrolled in a community-based randomized trial of cervical vaccine efficacy in Costa Rica.

The 6,352 participants who came for the final blinded study visit, four years after their first of three vaccine shots, were asked to give an anal sample, and 4,210 did so, with a median follow-up of 48.1 months.

The researchers analyzed anal infection in the whole cohort and also in a subgroup of women who had been negative for HPV DNA and antibodies at the start of the trial. Patient characteristics in both groups were well-balanced, the researchers reported, including the proportions who got the vaccine and those who were in the control group, given hepatitis A vaccine.

Kreimer and colleagues found:

In the full cohort, vaccine efficacy at the anus was 62%, lower than the 76.4% seen at the cervix.

Efficacy against anal HPV 16 was 68.2% (27 events in the vaccine group and 85 in the control group) and against HPV 18 was 55.5% (20 events in the HPV group and 45 in the control group).

In the HPV-nave subgroup, efficacy against anal HPV 16/18 infection was 83.6%, similar to the 87.9% seen at the cervix.

Women in the full cohort who reported anal sex had an anal vaccine efficacy of 73.9%, compared with 55.3% among those who did not.

In the HPV-nave subgroup, efficacy rates were 85% for those who did not report anal sex and 80.8% for those who did.

A secondary analysis also showed the vaccine offered cross-protection against HPV strains 31 and 45, which also are associated with anal cancer.

The researchers cautioned that the analysis is based on a single anal sample for each participant, so that neither incidence nor viral persistence could be used as an endpoint.

The findings are "extremely important for additional extracervical coverage, " argued Diane Harper, MD, and Stephen Vierthaler, MD, both of the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine in Kansas City, Mo.

"The additional protection against four oncogenic anal HPV types in women increases their benefits from vaccination," they wrote in an accompanying comment article.

However, the rates of anal cancer among women remain lower by a factor of 10 than among men who have sex with men or people with compromised immune systems, they noted.

The cost-effectiveness of the vaccine in terms of preventing potential anal cancers depends heavily on the duration of vaccine efficacy -- if it's less than 15 years, they wrote, "cancers will not be prevented for women or men who have sex with men, only postponed."

Porn | Porn Filming Suspended Over HIV Fears

Among the studios that have suspended production is Van Nuys-based Evil Angel, according to spokeswoman and former performer Tricia Devereaux.

"The moratorium will last as long as needed to feel confident we won't be shooting anyone who was exposed," Devereaux said in a Tuesday email. "Once that ends, there will still be people who haven't been cleared yet who will have to wait before they can perform."

Spokeswomen for Hustler Video and Vivid Entertainment declined to comment Tuesday, referring questions to the Free Speech Coalition.

Coalition officials did not respond to questions about how the performer contracted HIV given the current system for testing adult performers, which includes an online database the coalition launched earlier this month.

Under voluntary industry standards, performers must be tested every 30 days and show proof of a clean test before they perform.

AIM Medical Associates had been operating the industry's database of test results before it closed in May while fighting a lawsuit that alleged it revealed performers' private medical information .

"The industry has had a successful system of health and safety self-regulation since 1998, despite any misinformation being spread by our opponents," the Tuesday statement said. "It is an unfortunate fact that the closure of AIM was, in large part, due to relentless litigation."

Porn | Porn Film Shoots Halted After HIV Case 0

LOS ANGELES - Pornography film shoots across the United States have been largely shut down after an industry trade group called for a moratorium because an adult-film performer tested positive for HIV, officials with the organization said Tuesday.

The temporary moratorium recommended by the Los Angeles-based Free Speech Coalition comes as public health advocates escalated calls for greater enforcement of laws requiring porn stars to wear condoms on the set.

The Free Speech Coalition said it learned on Saturday that a porn film performer who has not been publicly identified had initially tested positive for HIV. It called for an industry-wide moratorium on Sunday.

The performer received a preliminary positive result for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, at a health facility outside of California. The San Fernando Valley suburb of Los Angeles has long been a leading hub of the porn industry.

Further diagnostic testing was needed to confirm the performer was HIV positive, the trade group said.

Diane Duke, executive director of the trade group, said she believed porn productions had largely been shut down nationally as a result of the moratorium, and that she was unaware of any companies that were refusing to comply.

"The industry has had a successful system of health and safety self-regulation since 1998, despite any misinformation being spread by our opponents," the Free Speech Coalition said in a statement.

In 2010, another porn performer, Derrick Burts, tested positive for HIV, which also prompted a temporary shutdown of porn productions.

A number of other porn stars have been infected with HIV over the years, said Brian Chase, assistant general counsel for the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which was organizing a petition drive for a Los Angeles municipal ballot initiative to require porn performers in the city to wear condoms on set.

Supporters said local authorities were best suited to enforce such a measure.

California law and federal workplace safety rules require the use of condoms for porn stars exchanging bodily fluids through sex, but the industry has largely ignored those mandates, Chase said.

Porn companies have resisted efforts to compel condom usage by arguing it would force productions to go underground or outside the United States, increasing health risks.

The porn industry continues to operate in a legal gray zone, Chase said. "When you’ve got a situation like that, you’ve got a lot of industry participants who feel they don’t need to follow the law," he said.

Until recently, many porn performers had been regularly tested for HIV at a private clinic in Los Angeles run by a private outfit called AIM Medical Associates. But the clinic closed in May as it filed for bankruptcy and dealt with lawsuits against it.

Since the closure, the Free Speech Coalition has developed a health and safety program to take its place, and it was in the process of signing up performers, producers and agents to participate, the trade group said.

Sex | Judge Delays Trial Over Ownership Of Edwards Sex Tape

C HAPEL HILL, N.C. - An Orange County judge agreed to delay the trial over ownership questions about a videotape purportedly showing John Edwards having sex with the former campaign videographer at the center of the federal criminal charges against him.

Judge Carl Fox entered an order in Orange County Superior Court on Tuesday that delays a civil trial between Rielle Hunter, the videographer with whom Edwards had an affair and a child, and Andrew and Cheri Young. Andrew Young is a former Edwards aide who wrote a tell-all book about the former U.S. senator’s 2008 presidential campaign.

Andrew and Cheri Young, a couple with whom Hunter once lived, are in a legal tussle over ownership of the tape and other items.

The trial was set to take place this year, but Fox agreed to delay it until March, when the criminal trial against Edwards should be complete.

Edwards was charged in June with violating federal campaign finance laws by secretly obtaining and using contributions from two wealthy supporters to hide his mistress and her pregnancy from the public during his unsuccessful bid for president in 2008.

Edwards has denied breaking the law.

Though the federal criminal case and the civil case about ownership of the sex tape are about different legal issues and in different court, the two overlap some.

Edwards answered questions under oath for six hours for the lawsuit in state court.

Young is expected to be a key witness for the prosecution in the campaign finance case.

Because the cases are likely to include some of the same witnesses, Fox rescheduled the civil case for trial on March 26, 2012.

Porn | BitTorrent Grandma Was Wrongfully Accused, Lawyer Admits

A 70-year-old retired widow from San Francisco who was accused of sharing a porn movie on BitTorrent has seen the case against her dropped. The woman, who went to the press after being threatened by a notorious anti-piracy law firm, was told that they targeted her by mistake. In what appears to be an attempt at diverting attention away from the damaging and embarrassing truth, the law firm claims it has now found the ‘real' infringer.

In recent months hundreds of thousands of people have been accused of downloading and sharing

Making Love | Child Of Eden Now In Microsoft's Kinect Bundle

Microsoft is dead-set on making you love Q Entertainment's stellar synesthesiac shooter, and will be packing it in with upcoming Kinect bundles.

Despite its substandard sales numbers ( Child of Eden only moved around 34,000 units during its debut month), Q Entertainment's on-rails rhythm action game is set to be bundled in with the newest version of the Microsoft Kinect Bundle. This new version, which still includes a Kinect motion controller and a copy of Kinect Adventures, is set to be packed in with a redeemable download code for a full copy of Child of Eden. Not bad for a criticall y acclaimed game from a musical mastermind that came out a scant three months ago.

The bundle will still retail for the $150 -- a price that's suddenly looking quite a bit more appealing.

Porn | Steele Hansmeier Drops Suit Against 'porn Granny'

-- Technology remains the undisputed driving force behind job creation and office leasing in San Francisco.

Yelp, LinkedIn, Salesforce.com, Dolby Laboratories and Advent Software are all hunting for more space in the city, industry sources say. Meanwhile, Mayor Ed Lee announced expansion plans for both Autodesk and Zendesk this week.

Tech firms moving to or expanding within San Francisco almost universally cite the local workforce. The creative and highly trained engineers they want to employ want to live in the city - or at least be able to commute to their jobs easily from surrounding areas.

In all, about 85 technology firms are scouting the local market for around 2.7 million square feet of office space, according to an analysis by real estate brokerage Jones Lang LaSalle. Through the first seven months of the year, the industry leased 4 million square feet in the city - 1.2 million of which represented growth (many of the leases were renewals for existing firms). Companies in the sector fill about 15 percent of the city's occupied office space but now represent about 30 percent of the growth.

"The trend is clear," said Colin Yasukochi, director of research at Jones Lang LaSalle. "They are growing at a substantially faster rate than any other industry in the market."

On Tuesday, Lee announced the official opening of Zendesk in the Mid-Market district while revealing that the customer-support software company sealed a deal to double its planned space there to 35,000 square feet. Opening the office at 989 Market St. makes Zendesk the first company to take advantage of the payroll tax exclusion passed in April.

The controversial measure backed by Lee was designed to help revitalize the rundown district by luring technology companies, particularly those keen to avoid what ends up being a steep tax amid an initial public offering. It was mainly driven by Twitter, which had been threatening to move its headquarters out of the city but ultimately signed a lease at the Market Square building.

"Our administration has pushed very hard this concept that technology companies should start here, grow here and stay here," Lee said in an interview. "It's a huge engine in our local economy."

On Monday, Lee also said Autodesk, a leading engineering software company, will expand its space at One Market Plaza by another 36,000 square feet. That marks the San Rafael company's second expansion in the past six months, bringing its total San Francisco presence to 150,000 square feet.

About 500 of Autodesk's workers are now located in the city, a number it expects will reach 700 within the next three to five years.

The latest lease "is about investing in our future and investing in this creative and innovative city," Autodesk chief executive Carl Bass said in a statement. "With our offices in the heart of downtown, we see our expansion playing an important role in attracting the best talent from around the Bay Area."

"Porn granny" update: A Chicago law firm has dropped its claims against an East Bay grandmother whom it accused of illegally downloading pornography, in a case that some observers said bordered on extortion.

"It is such good news as this lawsuit has been hanging over my head," said Jane, a retired widow in her 70s who asked that her real name not be used. "But at the same time, there's a certain bitterness about the whole thing."

We first reported on the suit in July, noting that Steele Hansmeier PLLC had filed cases on behalf of adult entertainment companies against thousands of people around the country. The suits usually seek damages for what the law firm says are illegal downloads of adult entertainment on personal computers.

In letters to defendants, the law firm strongly urges people to settle for a few thousands dollars, reminding them that it's less than what they'd probably pay in attorney's fees and that a settlement would keep their name out of a court case tied to porn.

Legal observers such as the Electronic Frontier Foundation say that the embarrassing allegations and low fees can compel people to pay up even if they've done nothing wrong.

Media companies and law firms can dig up defendant names by subpoenaing Internet service providers for the account holders linked to the online address seen downloading or sharing

Hot Sex | Red Hot Chili Peppers' 'I'm With You': Track-By-Track Review

In a nearly 30-year career, Los Angeles poster boys Red Hot Chili Peppers have been christened punk-funk pioneers, genre-bridging party-starters, intricate virtuosos, stadium-ready rockers, introspective balladeers and sunny elder statesmen of rock. Having weathered bandmate departures, massive infighting and the death of founding member Hillel Slovak, the band seemed impervious to failure, functioning on a near-nonstop writing/recording/touring cycle from 1999's "Californication" to the end of the "Stadium Arcadium" tour in 2007. After taking a two-year hiatus to mentally regroup, the band returns with "I'm With You," an album that sounds less like a departure than a distillation of the band's disparate ideas.

Chili Peppers Rock New Songs at Private Club Show

For their tenth album, out now, the Chilis employed a mix of old and new collaborators to flesh out their sound. The band amicably parted ways with on-and-off guitarist John Frusciante, replacing him with "Stadium Arcadium" touring guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. Rick Rubin, who has produced every Chilis album since 1991's "Blood Sugar Sex Magik," returned to the boards, producing more than 70 new tracks and making "I'm With You" the first album specially mastered for iTunes customers.

After nine albums and 50 million records sold, though, it's natural for a band to question what's left to accomplish and how strong is the desire to experiment with new ideas. Following 1995's "One Hot Minute," the band, then in their mid-30s, began to delve into more adult sounds. Lead singer Anthony Kiedis could still be counted on to bound around the stage in a frenzied panic, but sunny melodies and radio-friendly choruses were as much a part of the band's sound as the hard rock, funk and hip-hop that informed much of the band's earlier work. Growing up or selling out? Depends on your perspective. But the band, more than most, was able to make the transition from '90s alternative band to stadium-filling anthem-creators. "I'm With You" is a continuation of this path; an album that doesn't showcase many new sonic directions, but functions more like a victory lap for a veteran band. It may not make the Chilis any new fans, but it should please the countless ones they already have.

Here's our Twitter-length track-by-track review of each song.

You be the judge: What do you think of Red Hot Chili Peppers' "I'm With You"? Tweet us your own review at @billboarddotcom (using hashtag #bbrhcp). The best tweets will be posted on Billboard.com in the coming days.

1. "Monarchy of Roses" - Grinding, reverb-laced guitars and tribal drumming share space with driving funk-rock on regal-themed album opener.

2. "Factory of Faith" - Over Flea's prominent, propulsive bass, Kiedis blends the sing-rap of "Mother's Milk" and "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" with the mature crooning of "Californication" and "By The Way."

3. "Brendan's Death Song" - On the first day of rehearsals, the band was informed of the death of friend and co-biographer Brendan Mullen. This mellow, poignant track is their tribute.

4. "Ethiopia" - Inspired by Flea and Klinghoffer's trip to the titular country, odd time signatures and mid-tempo funk lay the bed for lyrics of redemption and newfound spirituality.

5. "Annie Wants a Baby" - Klinghoffer's brooding, dark chords and noisy punctuations anchor Kiedis's evocative lyrics.

6. "Look Around" - The album's most exuberant track, handclaps accentuate Smith's bouncy rhythms as Kiedis raps like it's 1989. That's a good thing. This is the one the crowd'll jump around to live.

7. "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" - For the band's lead single, "Tick-tock, I want to rock you like the 80s" isn't just a lyric, but a command to be obeyed in the sunny, funk-heavy track.

8. "Did I Let You Know" - A trumpet solo, drummer Chad Smith's skittering beat and Klinghoffer's breezy guitar riff highlight the track, with Klinghoffer sharing vocal duties and Kiedis singing endearingly goofy rhymes ("I want to lean on ya/Get Jan and Dean on ya").

9. "Goodbye Hooray" - The album's hardest, most aggressive track, "Goodbye Hooray" is Black Sabbath's "The Wizard" if the boys from Birmingham grew up in California instead. The Chilis find time, though, to get melodic during the chorus.

10. "Happiness Loves Company" - Stomping drums and keyboards give the track an Americana. honky tonk vibe that stands as the album's most upbeat song.

11. "Police Station" - One of the longest tracks on the album balances mournful regret with anthemic energy. Kiedis's pained, elegiac lyrics recall the confessionals of "Under the Bridge" and "Scar Tissue."

12. "Even You Brutus?" - Piano and a hip-hop beat notwithstanding, this one's repeatability depends on your enjoyment of Kiedis's use of spoken word in verses.

13. "Meet Me at the Corner" - Even with Kiedis's dark lyrics, this mellow, brisk song has the lighters-in-the-air quality that will please fans of Ben Harper and Jack Johnson.

14. "Dance, Dance, Dance" - It may not become as prom ubiquitous as Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)," but the mellow shuffle of the album's closer will soundtrack 17-year-olds' memories for at least a few years.

Babes | Jill Donenfeld: Band Bites: Tacos And Poutine With Total Babes

With an arsenal of infectious pop punk songs, Total Babes started in 2010 by accident during a jam session in Medina, Ohio. Singer/guitarist Chris Brown and Cloud Nothings' drummer Jayson Gerycz were screwing around and came up with some catchy songs. The band filled out with Gary Spolarich on bass and Joe Boyer (also from Cloud Nothings) on guitar. Their debut LP Swimming Through Sunlight drops August 30 on Old Flame Records and Continental Mind. We recently caught up with Chris and Jayson to talk about their favorite on-the-road food finds (think: burritos, poutine, and Jordan almonds).

What do you eat before a show?
Chris tends to eat alcohol and I (Jayson) eat heck-tons of Gatorade.

What's your favorite thing to get after a show?
It's different depending on the city, but we do love tacos everywhere.

What's your favorite post-NYC show meal?
I usually try not to eat while in New York. It's too pricey. But a big slice of some New York pie is always nice.

What's your favorite post-LA meal?
I've only been to L.A. once and it was also rather pricey. I did eat at that hip joint, In-N-Out Burger -- it wasn't that great.

Have any groupies ever made you anything and sent it backstage?
No Total Babes groupies have ever sent us anything backstage. But one time in Europe with Cloud Nothings someone made us cupcakes.

Any food that musically inspires you?
I'm gonna have to say the Burrito a la Diabla would be our inspiration behind every song we have ever made. You can purchase yourself one at Fiesta Jalapeno in Medina, Ohio. It's highly recommended by both of us.

What are your fondest food memories? Any of them documented in your music?
This one time I drank one of those gigantic monster energy drinks before recording drums to a song and received super human abilities. Eyewitness accounts claim I became a monster.

What's your favorite city for eating before or after you've played a gig?
Personally, I enjoy Montreal for some fine dining. All I have to say is "poutine."

What is your favorite tour bus snack?
Chris can't get enough Jordan almonds -- that motherf***er thrives off those puppies. I prefer water and a little trail mix for the dusty trail.

What hometown meal do you miss the most when you are on the road?
We miss Miss Molly's Tea Room located in historic Medina square. A wonderful selection of tea and mind blowing scones. Quiche, strawberry pretzel salad and a few slices of lemon bread will set you straight. Not only do they offer delicious food they also have an atmosphere resembling an elderly dame's wet dream: doilies galore. Check this vid out fo sho .

Who's the pickiest eater in the band? What's his deal?
We aren't really picky eaters so we don't run into that problem.

Who's the best cook in the band? What's his best dish?
Joe is probably the best cook because he has a job as a cook, but I've never had a Joe Meal. Gary also works at a kitchen in a hospital; I suppose he can make some nice Jell-o. Chris and I once made salmon, steak, pineapple and sauted veggies -- it was incredible.

Any food favorites of the entire band?
We love the Bloomin' Onion from Outback Steakhouse.

Any on-the-road food discoveries, restaurants or roadside vendors?
I recently ate at a heavy metal burger place in Chicago called Kuma's Corner . They have really gigantic burgers with an incredible menu -- especially if you love metal.

Porn | Porn Filming Still Suspended In Wake Of HIV Scare

Sex | Studies Question Effectiveness Of Sex Offender Laws

ScienceDaily (Aug. 30, 2011) — Two studies in the latest issue of the Journal of Law and Economics cast doubt on whether sex offender registry and notification laws actually work as intended.

One study, by J.J. Prescott of the University of Michigan and Johan Rockoff of Columbia University, found that requiring sex offenders to register with police may significantly reduce the chances that they will re-offend. However the research also finds that making that same registry information available to the broader public may backfire, leading to higher overall rates of sex crime.

Meanwhile, another study by University of Chicago Ph.D. student Amanda Agan finds no evidence that sex offender registries are at all effective in increasing public safety.

Prescott and Rockoff -- Do Sex Offender Registries and Notification Laws Deter Crime?

Using data from 15 states over more than 10 years, Prescott and Rockoff examine the evolution of sex offense rates as states passed and began to enforce their registration and notification laws. Registration laws require that sex offenders check in with and provide information to the police following their release from prison, whereas notification laws make sex offender information available to the public, often via the Internet. The researchers analyze sex offender registration and notification laws separately, which is important because the laws are designed to work in very different ways.

Prescott and Rockoff find that a registration requirement without public notification reduces reported sex crime substantially, most likely through better police monitoring and more effective apprehension of recidivists. For a state with an average-sized registry, a registration requirement reduces crime by about 13 percent from the sample mean. The drop in crime gets larger as registries grow larger, indicating that registry laws lower crime by discouraging registered offenders from re-offending, as opposed to discouraging potential first-time offenders.

In contrast, public notification laws, such as the listing of released offenders on the Internet, may actually undo some or all of a registry's crime-reducing power. While Prescott and Rockoff discover that the threat of being subjected to notification deters some potential first-time sex offenders from committing crime, released offenders appear to become more likely to do so. In fact, adding public notification to an average state's registration law leads to slightly higher levels of total reported sex crime. Taken as a whole, the research shows that while police registration discourages sex offender recidivism, public notification actually encourages it.

Why would public notification encourage sex offenders to re-offend? Perhaps because they have little else to lose. In particular, notification can make the threat of prison less effective. According to Prescott and Rockoff, their findings suggest that "convicted sex offenders become more likely to commit crimes when their information is made public because the associated psychological, social, or financial costs make a crime-free life relatively less desirable."

J.J. Prescott and Jonah E. Rockoff, "Do Sex Offender Registration and Notification Laws Affect Criminal Behavior?" Journal of Law and Economics 54:1

Amanda Agan -- Sex Offender Registries: Fear Without Function?

Agan finds no evidence that sex offender registries are effective in increasing public safety.

Her study used three different types of analysis to test the effectiveness of sex offender laws. First, she compared arrest rates for sex crimes in each U.S. state before and after registry laws were implemented and found no appreciable changes in crime trends following the introduction of a registry.

Second, Agan tested whether registries discourage convicted offenders from re-offending. To do that, she looked at data on over 9,000 sex offenders released from prison in 1994. About half of those offenders were released into states where they needed to register, while the other half did not need to register. She could then compare crime rates in the two groups.

She found little difference in the two groups' propensity to re-offend. In fact, those released into states without registration laws were slightly less likely to re-offend.

"The results show that an offender who should have had to register appears to behave no differently, or possibly worse, than on who did not have to register," she writes. "If anything, registered offenders have higher rates of recidivism."

Third, Agan looked at census blocks in Washington D.C. to see if higher numbers of sex offenders in a given block correspond to higher rates of sex crime arrests. She found that crime rates in general, and sex crimes in particular, do not vary according to the number of sex offenders in the area.

The block-by-block analysis was designed to assess "the potential effectiveness of registries by considering whether where offenders live is predictive of where they offend," Agan writes.

"The results show that knowing where a sex offender lives does not reveal much about where sex crimes, or other crimes, will take place," she writes. That result calls into question the rationale for creating registries in the first place.

She concludes that sex offender registries do little to increase public safety, "either in practice or in potential."

Teen Sex | "Helpful Volunteer" Admits To Soliciting Sex From Teen

Marvin King, described by some around the Harrisonburg community as "a helpful volunteer", has admitted to soliciting sex from a 14-year-old girl.

Court records show he has a long history of crime.

The arrest comes as a shock to some who knew him at "Our Community Place" in Harrisonburg, where he volunteered and helped the homeless.

Neighbors at the apartment complex where King lived are surprised as well, but court records show he had a troubled history.

He faced previous convictions of abduction and assault.

His latest charge of indecent liberties with a minor involved him creating a Facebook account, lying about his identity, and sending lewd photos and messages to a young teenager.

During the investigation, police found him by tracing the calls.

For one neighbor, it's tough to believe.

"He seemed like a pretty nice guy when I've talked to him," said Leroy Shifflett, who lives in an apartment building across from King. "It got me feeling crazy. You can never really tell who a person is. Some people do crazy stuff and you won't even know it. You can be friends with them and they have another life on the side. You just don't know."

King's sentencing date is scheduled for mid-October and he faces a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine.

Porn | Hollywood Porn Grinds To A Halt After Scare

Hollywood's "other" movie industry has ordered its cameras to stop rolling after an adult film star tested positive for HIV, prompting renewed soul-searching about its safety standards.

An unnamed performer was found to have contracted the virus, during a routine examination on Saturday.

Studios were notified on Monday morning and agreed to an immediate shutdown of production until further medical tests were completed.

"Until we know for sure, we've asked the industry to have a moratorium," said Diane Duke, executive director of the Free Speech Coalition, a trade group representing the porn industry.

"Re-testing and confirmation is under way, as is the process of identifying and testing first- and second-generation partners [of the infected star]."

News of the case comes amid growing criticism of the adult industry's efforts to protect employees from sexually transmitted diseases.

Under a voluntary code, producers are at present required to ask performers for proof that they tested negative for STDs in the past 30 days.

That has not stopped occasional outbreaks of HIV among the 3,000-odd porn stars in LA, however. Last year, a young actor called Derrick Burts became infected. He is now among former performers fronting a growing campaign for condom use to become mandatory on porn film sets.

Since then, a campaign has been gathering steam to make the use of condoms in porn mandatory. Organisers are trying to gather the 41,000 signatures they will need on a petition to trigger a referendum on the subject in California.

Teen Sex | Tacachale Worker Accused Of Sex With Teen He Met On Internet

Timothy E. Howard-Hughes, of 3527 SW 20th Ave., was charged with lewd and lascivious battery on someone under age 16. He is an employee of the Tacachale state community for the developmentally disabled in Gainesville, where he helps residents with their daily living skills, Tacachale Director Michael Mayfield said.

In a Gainesville Police Department arrest report, investigators said Howard-Hughes met the teenage girl at her school bus stop around 7:30 a.m. Monday and drove her to her apartment, where he said the couple had consensual sex.

Police spokeswoman Cpl. Tscharna Senn said the girl's relatives found out about the incident and reported it.

Howard-Hughes told Officer James Hinson he thought the girl was 17 years old. Hinson said Howard-Hughes also admitted to the sexual activities.

Officials with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, which oversees Tacachale, were being briefed on the the situation Tuesday morning, Mayfield said. State officials will determine whether Howard-Hughes should be placed on paid or unpaid administrative leave until the charge against him is resolved.

Mayfield said Howard-Hughes would not have any contact with Tacachale residents while the charge is pending against him.

Howard-Hughes was being held Tuesday morning at the Alachua County jail.

Sex | Minneapolis 4th Highest For Number Of Same-sex Couples

According to a study of 2010 U.S. Census data by UCLA's Williams Institute , among large U.S. cities, Minneapolis has the fourth highest rate of same-sex couples living within its borders. Neighboring St. Paul ranked 24th and Minnesota ranked 33rd among states.

While an anti-gay-marriage initiative will be on the ballot in 2012, a policy that would surely turn many same-sex couples away from Minnesota, some of the state's communities are embracing the growing number of such couples within their communities.

Minneapolis has 3,831 couples, according to the Census, or 23.43 same-sex couples per 1,000 households. It lagged behind only San Francisco, Seattle and Oakland among of cities over 250,000 population. Its place among major cities hasn't change much over the last three decades. It was fourth in the 1990 Census, fifth in 2000 and in the American Community Survey conducted between 2004-2006, the city placed third.

St. Paul has 1,346 such couples, or 12.13 same-sex couples per 1,000 households, ranking it 24th among cities with a population greater than 250,000. That put it just behind Los Angeles.

Minnesota came in at 33rd among the states for same-sex couples per 1,000 households. It was bested only by Illinois among Midwestern states, ranking just above Indiana and well ahead of Iowa (47th), where gay marriage is legal. Wisconsin was 40th, and South and North Dakota were 50th and 51st, respectively.

Minnesota saw an increase in same-sex couples of 50 percent over 2000.

In Minnesota, the top city of any size with the highest concentration of same-sex couples was Golden Valley followed by Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, St. Paul and Richfield.

In the U.S., the Census reported 901,997 same-sex couples or 7.7 per 1,000 households.

The numbers are prompting some communities to tout their acceptance of same-sex couples as a positive attribute. Pine City did not make the top five in Minnesota, but Pine County did - coming in third behind Hennepin and Ramsey counties. Some community boosters there have seized on those numbers. Pine City, home to 3,100 residents and located about an hour north of Minneapolis, hosts East Central Minnesota Pride, a LGBT pride picnic held each summer. The parade has garnered attention nationally for being one of only a handful of small-town pride events in the nation. And, the Minnesota State Fair Foundation named it a winner for the 2011 Community Pride Showcase.

"This event is one of the ways that the small town GLBT community can help to bring harmony to us all no matter where we live in this great state of ours," said Dennis Burns, owner of DB Signs in rural Pine City, in a statement about the recognition. "I urge everyone to attend the picnic next summer."

Nathan Johnson, Pine City's city planner, noted that Pine City's proximity to the Twin Cities , as well as its openness, has contributed to an increase in same-sex couples choosing to locate in the area.

Another reason for the concentration of gay couples in the Pine City area might be that the city lives up to its motto: "North. Nice and close." People are coming here from the Twin Cities area, primarily, because of the great quality of life. The town is home to a health food store, gyms, a community theater and an arts center"not to mention the recreational aspects of the Snake River and nearby lakes. One can buy anything from hummus to sushi here.

And while Minneapolis has been named the nation's most gay-friendly city, Pine City has evidence of a community that embraces gay residents as well " such as East Central Minnesota Pride.

Bottom line, as reported recently in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the increase since 2000 in the number of same-sex partners reflects three changes: More gays and lesbians in the area; more choosing to live together; and more of them willing to identify themselves as gay.

True in the Twin Cities. True in Pine City.

Porn | Child Porn Charges Result In Guilty Plea

A 27-year-old Columbia man yesterday pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography as a result of a February investigation.

An Oct. 24 sentencing hearing is scheduled for Thach H. Nguyen of 410 College Ave., Apt. E, after he pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of child pornography. A charge of first-degree promoting child pornography was amended to possession of child pornography.

Authorities began investigating Nguyen in early February when a Boone County Sheriff's Department Cyber Crimes Task Force investigator obtained information that a Columbia residence was offering child pornography through a file-sharing program, according to a task force news release. The investigator downloaded video files from the suspected computer, and a location later was identified.

The downloaded file depicted the molestation of prepubescent children, the news release said. Investigators searched Nguyen's residence Feb. 16.

A computer and other evidence were seized, including at least 30 videos and possibly hundreds of pornographic images of children, the news release said.

Lesbians | Married Lesbian Episcopal Priest Named Finalist For Bishop Of New York

NEW YORK -- The Rev. Tracey Lind, a married lesbian priest, is one of five finalist to become the next bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of New York.

Lind, who is dean of Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland, is 57 and married Emily Ingalls in 2010 in New Hampshire, according to the diocese.

Bishop Mark Sisk has planned to retire by August 2014, so a diocese panel has chosen the finalists who would succeed him. The election will be Oct. 29 at a convention at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in Manhattan. The winner will be named coadjutor bishop and will assist Sisk until his retirement.

The Episcopal Church is among the first mainstream religions to embrace gays and lesbians into the ministry. In 2003, V. Gene Robinson was elected the ninth bishop of the Diocese of New Hampshire, becoming the first openly gay, non-celebate priest to be ordained as a bishop in a major Christian denomination in the U.S. Robinson's election triggered dissension within the church, and some congregations split from the Episcopal Church.

The other nominees to become bishop of New York are:

-- The Rev. Peter Eaton, dean of St. John's Cathedral in Denver

-- The Rev. Cathy Hagstrom George, priest-in-charge at St. Mary's in Dorchester, Mass.

-- The Rev. John T. W. Harmon, rector at Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C.

-- The Rev. Pierre Whalon, bishop-in-charge of the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe, based in Paris.

Porn | Foo Fighters Gay Porn Video

Foo Fighters have unveiled a new video ahead of their North American tour - apparently inspired by gay porn.

Foo Fighters have long been masters of the eye catching video. In the past, Dave Grohl has dressed up as a school girl, an air hostess and pretended to have bi-polar disorder combined with anger difficulties.

So what's next? Well, having obviously exhausted all other options Foo Fighters have decided to shoot their own gay porn video. Dressed as truckers, the 'Hot Buns' video shows the band are shown lathering each other in the shower. Imagine cowboy boots, fake beards, soap-on-a-rope and you'd be close...

The video has been released ahead of an upcoming North American tour. Our friends on the opposite side of the Atlantic are in for a treat, with Foo Fighters having played some of their largest headline shows yet on British shores.

Sex | Sex Offender Kills Self

Lahoud was charged between late 2008 and 2009 with 11 counts of indecent liberties with a child and one count of attempted rape.

"He was supposed to plead guilty to some of those and go to prison," Shekita said.

Lahoud would have spent between eight and 10 years in prison for the offenses, Shekita said.

The police were notified at 7:53 a.m. about a dead person in the parking lot of an office complex at 7008 Harps Mill Road, Jim Sughrue, a Raleigh police spokesman, said Monday afternoon.

Lahoud of 1905 Grove Point Court was given a deferred prosecution for indecent liberties in 1995, then convicted of four counts of indecent liberties, one in 2002 and three in 2004, according to the N.C. Sex Offender Registry. Prison records show he received probation and suspended sentences and never served time in prison for the offenses.

In 2008, Lahoud's neighbors were baffled by the news of his arrest. They described him as a quiet, churchgoing, hard-working general contractor.

Investigators think the offenses involved at least four juveniles - one girl and three boys.

They think the offenses took place between 2001 and 2006, court records show.

One of the victims, who was 15 when Lahoud was arrested, told investigators that he was fondled by Lahoud at least five times.

Three other teens also told investigators Lahoud fondled them on multiple occasions when they were younger.

Porn | Teen Child Porn Collector Pleads Guilty

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- A Canadian teenager who admitted to starting his child pornography collection when he was 12 pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years of probation.

The youth, whose name was withheld, entered his plea in Winnipeg, Manitoba, along with an apology, the Winnipeg Free Press reported.

"I know what I've done for a while now is very wrong. I feel very bad, a lot of grief and embarrassment for my family," the teen said in court.

He was first charged in 2008 when he was 15 after online child pornography investigators in Austria traced his computer address, the report said.

Prosecution and defense lawyers had agreed on a sentence of two years of supervised probation and counseling. The teen's name was also placed on the national sex-offender registry and he has restricted Internet and cellphone access rights.

Prosecutor Terry McComb said the teen's case was unusual.

"It's very peculiar that he begins looking at child pornography when he himself is a child," he said.

In earlier testimony, the boy said he didn't perceive the youngsters in his collection of pornography as victims "because most of them are smiling," the report said.

Sex | Love Without Sex. Any Volunteers?

Asexual people are the people who say no to sex voluntarily. Those people have their own reasons behind such an unusual decision. They fall in love and build families. They say that they know exactly where the border is between sex and intimacy. To all appearance, the absence of something in life allows to take a look at that something from a completely different point of view.

David Jay, the 29-year-old star of 2011 documentary "A(sexual)", spent most of his life observing other people's sexual behavior as a researcher. Jay founded the Asexual Visibility and Education Network in 2001 and became a frequent guest at many TV and radio shows. He has to answer the same questions in practically every interview, buy the man is full of patience. A few people may actually realize that it is indeed possible to live in this world without sex.

Most people will be offended with the idea of having absolutely no interest in sex. This concept contradicts to everything that human beings are accustomed to. The concept is actually confrontational. It is very hard for many to believe in asexuality, which raises many explanations to the roots of this phenomenon. People usually try to explain this with a childhood trauma or violence, although there is no evidence to prove that this connection may actually exist.

Moreover, common people are astounded to find out that asexuality has several categories. Like everyone else, asexual individuals fall in love with each other and marry each other in spite of the fact that they do not practice sex. They can receive pleasure from kisses and hugs.

"There's no official line that we draw. It's really about an individual subjective experience. There are things that I do, and that I love doing, that other people would call sexual," Jay says. He likes to cuddle, for instance, and he's "learned" to sometimes enjoy kissing - but he says that as soon as "things get around my own genitals, they stop making sense to my body." He describes it as "neural white noise" - which, understandably, he doesn't find particularly erotic. "What I've found the few times that I've been physical with another asexual person, there's sort of this sense that gravity turned off."

Stephen Elliott, the author of books about BDSM, is one of those who do not understand David Jay, but try to penetrate into their psychology.

"If I have all this desire, how can I be asexual?" That's the thing: he has no shortage of erotic longing, just a disinterest in sexual intercourse. "It's hard to put it together, if you desire someone so much you want to inhale them, and if sex is self-defining, or if what I mean by sex is not what you mean by sex," he writes.

Interestingly enough, many asexuals masturbate and they do it as often as other people do. Jay says that some people fantasize when they do it, others see masturbation as a physiological necessity.

Asexual individuals can make others change their approach to relationship.

"The language that we use to talk about intimacy in our culture is deeply, deeply sexualized. For a lot of sexual people, especially straight people, there's this image of what intimacy should look like and how you're supposed to connect with other people. A lot of that is based around the idea that you're supposed to form a really intimate connection with one person that lasts for your entire life and involves sex," Jay says.

Jay does not urge anyone to join him. He does not think that asexuality is better or worse than sexuality. He admits that the sexual experience that he missed was a very valuable thing.

"Sex is a blunt instrument, a way to monitor and control the intimacy that people create without really delving into the reality of what makes that intimacy happen. But the power that sex has is also fundamentally fragile, he says.
