U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner said Michael B. Poulson, 64, of Atwater, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. O'Neill to four years in prison, to be followed by 10 years of supervised release, for possessing child pornography.
According to court documents, Poulson possessed 150 to 300 sexually explicit images of pre-pubescent minors in video and still-image format.
Poulson has been in federal custody since Jan. 19 and pleaded guilty to the charge on April 15.
The case is the result of an investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian W. Enos prosecuted the case. It was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Led by the U.S. Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, PSC mobilizes federal, state and local resources to find, apprehend and prosecute those who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
