Porn | PETA's Porn Site WIll Spotlight Plight Of Animals

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals will launch a porn site, says spokeswoman Lindsay Rajt to the Huffington Post. PETA's porn site "draws attention to the plight of animals." Well, it's also a way to draw attention to themselves, with controversy the organization apparently thrives upon.

Maybe the Dennis Rodman ad "Ink, not Mink," showing the tattooed basketball star nude and inked up was a precursor to PETA's porn site, but it's a bit confusing as to what porn has to do with animal cruelty. Rajt explains the move this way.

"We live in a 24 hour news cycle world, and we learn the racy things we do are sometimes the most effective way that we can reach particular individuals."

Uh, okay, Lindsay, but after you reach them, what next? She says, "There will be a lot of girl and boy next door content, but we haven't ruled out celebrities on the site as well. People who are extraordinarily dedicated to helping animals and who are willing to do whatever it takes to draw attention to the suffering they endure."

Couldn't they just take a cue from other animal welfare organizations? The Sarah McLachlan commercial comes to mind. It is hard-hitting and yet beautifully done, to the heartwrenching song "Arms of an Angel." It would be interesting to compare proceeds gained from the Humane Society ad and PETA's porn site, after it's up and running.

According to cnet.com , one report suggests that PETA will use naked flesh scenes followed by flashing images of atrocities that humans inflict on animals. With a promo like that, it is doubtful that PETA's porn site will stir the emotions that Sarah's "Arms of an Angel" and those heartbreaking scenes do, and even less likely to open up many pocketbooks. It seems that what PETA needs more than a porn site is a good marketing firm, and massive dose of class.
