Babes | Okonkwo's Brace Against Bukola Babes Delights Heartland

Heartland have singled out Chibuzor Okonkwo for praise after the defender scored two goals to give the home side the maximum points against Bukola Babes in Owerri on Sunday.

The Super Eagles right back popped up to score his brace on 20th and 24 minutes and team media chief, Cajetan Nkwopara could not hide his delight as the Nigeria Premier League enters the home stretch.

"It was a great game on Sunday. Okonkwo was marvelous. The first goal was laid for him by Ikechukwu Ibenegu and the defender connected beautifully. The second was a free kick and it was a brilliant result for us,'' says Nkwopara.

"Obviously being part of the Super Eagles has helped his game, and that is what we say that when they come back to the club from national assignment, we should feel their impact. On our part we have given them a blank cheque to go to the national team whenever they are invited. The team did well and I will commend the players for the new spirit they are now exhibiting. We also thank our fans for being supportive so far."

On the seeming turnaround in the team's fortunes, the spokesman was reflective.

"It looked difficult at a stage, people predicted relegation even demise of the team, but today we are no longer in that bracket and we are hoping by the time we finish the remaining games in the league, we will be around the 8th position. Again we have not completely ruled out getting a continental slot even if it means playing WAFU. Whatever the case, you are certainly going to see a better Heartland in the new session,'' promises Nkwopara.
