South Australian Opposition Leader Isobel Redmond says she doesn't expect a Labor MP charged with child pornography offences to turn up for question time in parliament on Tuesday.
Ms Redmond said she had not seen the MP around the house as it prepared to resume following a three-week break.
"I'd be surprised, in fact if he does show," she said.
On Monday the MP was suspended from the Labor Party after a ruling by the state executive in response to a request from Premier Mike Rann.
That does not prevent him from taking up his seat in the upper house but he could seek extended leave while his case proceeds through the courts.
Last week he was charged with four child pornography offences and was granted police bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later this month.
He can't be named in the South Australian media because of provisions covering sex offences in the Evidence Act.
Ms Redmond said the opposition had not received a request to offer the MP a "pair" to ensure the balance of power in the Legislative Council was maintained.
She said had given her MPs some advice on how to handle the issue, including whether or not the MP could be named under parliamentary privilege.
"We'll consider things as they arise," she said.
"But I certainly did indicate to our MPs that any breach of the (Evidence Act) could expose them to a fine of up to $10,000 so they would want be very cautious before they said anything that might tend to identify the person."
