Teen Sex | Norfolk DA Probes 'reprehensible' Teen Sex Case

"You haven’t see it all yet. This investigation is continuing," Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey told the Herald last night. "To have a vulnerable girl taken off our streets and put into servitude is outrageous."

Norman S. Barnes, 28, of Dorchester pleaded not guilty in Quincy District Court yesterday to charges of kidnapping and enticing a child.

He was arrested Thursday afternoon after the victim escaped from her room at the Best Western Quincy Adams Inn in Quincy and reached out to her family via Facebook from a computer in the lobby, officials said. She had been held against her will since the first week in May.

Family members rushed to the hotel as the suspect returned, while one family member hailed a state trooper working a detail at the Neponset River Bridge, the DA said. That officer arrested Barnes.

Morrissey said the investigation now includes Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex counties. He said he could not comment on specific details - but added the state needs a tougher law to fight back against adults who prey on kids in the sex trade.

"It doesn’t matter if it’s one or 10 (teen girls). It’s reprehensible," Morrissey said. "You often think of Thailand or China with this kind of activity, but it does occur in the U.S. and in our community."

Barnes was held without bail and is due back in court May 27 for a dangerousness hearing.
