JOHOR BARU: The police are not legally bound to reveal the identity of the man in the sex video featuring a man resembling Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim .
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said there was no law stating that the police must disclose the identity of the man in the video, which was first screened in secrecy to a selected audience in March.
"If we do more than what we are supposed to, people will say the police are involved in politics.
"Why should the police be involved in politics?" he asked, commenting on a call by Kita president Datuk Zaid Ibrahim for the police to reveal the identity of the man in the sex video or lose their credibility.
Khalid said police investigations into the case had been completed, adding the papers had been submitted to the Attorney-General's chambers.
"We have done our investigations. Whether to charge or not, it is up to the A-G.
"We will wait for further instructions before taking the next course of action," he said at a conference here before opening a police brainstorming session at Pulai Springs here yesterday.
On another matter, Khalid said the police planned to set up an additional 25 beat bases in crime hot spots here and in Iskandar Malaysia. There are currently 25 bases in Johor.
