A woman praised as a community leader for her work running a police activities league for youth was arrested Monday for her alleged sexual relationship with a teenage boy, Cathedral City police said today.
Alanna Reichle, 33, of Cathedral City, was arrested at her home on Via Assisi and booked into the Indio jail on multiple counts of statutory rape and oral copulation with a minor.
Reichle is suspected of "having an ongoing sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male victim," Cathedral City police Lt. Chuck Robinson said.
He said the relationship was thought to have begun when the youth was 16. Under California law, sex with anyone under 18 is considered rape.
According to court records, Reichle posted $50,000 bail and was released from custody on Tuesday.
Her arraignment is scheduled for July 13 at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
Reichle is the director of the Western Coachella Valley Police Activities League and is employed in that position as a civilian staff member by the Palm Springs Police Department.
Reichle has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, interim Palm Springs Police Chief Al Franz told The Desert Sun on Wednesday.
Franz said the police department is cooperating with Cathedral City investigators, who informed the Palm Springs department about the arrest on Monday night.
Reichle is separated from Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Ken Reichle, according to court records.
He filed for divorce in May 2010. Two children were also named in the court papers.
Calls made to a phone numbers listed for Alanna Reichle went unanswered on Wednesday. Ken Reichle did not return a phone message.
Western Coachella Valley PAL is operated by the Palm Springs, Cathedral City and Desert Hot Springs police departments and the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
The organization is a member of the National Association of Police Athletic/Activities Leagues, Inc.
PAL is a crime prevention program that puts police officers together with youth through educational, athletic and recreational activities.
