Hailey's Club is handing its stage to the ladies Friday night for a showcase christened Sexy Chicks Playing Songs.
Among the lineup, Denton's Arielle LaGuette stands out thanks to a distinctive voice and - wait for it - her ukulele.
The recent graduate of the University of North Texas puts a pinch of a pan-Southern twang in her delivery of folksy covers and original music. LaGuette's smoky mezzo-soprano benefits from her simple acoustic picking. She's done the open-mic and coffeehouse circuit in North Texas, and she's been a member and soloist with the UNT a cappella group the Green Tones.
She's at her best in Youtube videos, doing duets with a talented, albeit unnamed blonde. (Their Bosque Brown-esque cover of Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness," drawl and all, is a treat.)
LaGuette can dabble in folk, pop and Texas country if she wants to. Whatever playground she visits, she promises to exhilarate.
LaGuette is set to share the stage with Kitty Hannah, Katie Carroll and Side Boob Tsunami Babes.
Doors open at 9 p.m. No cover, though donations will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Sounds like: Erin Austin of OK Sweetheart got a little forlorn at a luau. Or Feist decided to leave the electronics at home.
