The "Sex in the Summer in the City" series is comprised of three, one act plays representing something unique and different from the Black Ensemble Theater. The series was written by members of the Black Playwrights Initiative (BPI), which was developed by Taylor for the purpose of building a team of writers who would write scripts specifically for the Black Ensemble Theater. These plays represent something new and fresh from the Black Ensemble Theater, as they offer a fun and provocative take on issues such as lust, pain and conflict. No Safe Words is about the conflicting lifestyles of two cousins, Tim and Wilbur, who own two different companies that operate out of the same building. Ted owns a foot/tickling fetish company while Wilbur publishes a Christian magazine company. No Safe Words, written by Lyle Miller and directed byDaryl Brooks, tells their story with a cast of characters that are both hilarious and timely.

Day To Day is a different kind of love story about a man struggling with a life-threatening disease. Lee has HIV, and spends each day repeating his dreary routine that he believes he must do to survive. His life turns around in a chance meeting with a woman that changes everything. Performance Schedule Tickets
Performances for "Sex in the Summer in the City" series will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. Tickets are priced at $12 or $30 for the entire series and are available by calling the Black Ensemble Theater Box Office at 773-769-4451. All performances will take place at The Black Ensemble Theater, 4520 N. Beacon Street.
The Black Ensemble Theater
The Black Ensemble Theater Company was founded in 1976 by Jackie Taylor, who has written and directed more than 100 productions for the company. In addition to its main stage productions, the Black Ensemble Theater Company produces 'Plays with a Purpose,' a series of original youth-oriented musicals, designed to teach students positive life lessons and values, as well as several community-based programs that use theater arts to enhance and enrich the lives of countless youth, students and families.
Black Ensemble Theater is in the final stages of its capital campaign to build a new home for the company, the Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center. Of the $19 million needed for the project $16 million has been raised to date. The Black Ensemble Theater will celebrate the Grand Opening of the Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center on November 18, 2011.
