As technology continues to evolve at seemingly warp speed,parents often feel outpaced by their teens' knowledge andfamiliarity. While this can foster moments of great pride, it canalso be intimidating and concerning.
Risk taking and sexual exploration among teens isn't new.However, as teens have incorporated technology into their dailylives, they have discovered more ways to use " and misuse "expression and sharing. As with other expressions of sexuality,this can lead to the possibility of unintended consequences.
What does this mean for parents? The answer is the same answerto all issues surrounding adolescents and sex, familycommunication.
Even if we have a hard time understanding this new digitalworld, it is our job as parents to remember that the fundamentalfeelings and questions teens have about sexuality and appropriatebehavior are the same.
Thoughtful discussion and real strategies help teens thinkcritically about the potential repercussions of choosing to expressor explore sexuality through technology.
